Dr. Mark Schnellinger,
who penned this fast-paced adventure book for middle schoolers, wants kids and parents to get a better understanding of what happens inside the body during illness and injury. In this case, he looks to teach about asthma. The longtime pediatric emergency medicine physician believes these insights will provide a certain level of control, thereby calming fears and providing confidence and peace of mind.
Join the Adventure
In this adventure about asthma, the signs, symptoms, and treatments are seamlessly embedded throughout the book, but this epic tale is more mystical than medical. The fast-paced story follows Luka and Soleil, siblings from a fictional world called Core. They are the last remaining descendants of Asclepius, the Greek god of healing, and are the only hope for saving sick and injured children on earth. The powerful duo set out in search of a magical coin that could change everything, but they must first face Hades and the demons of the underworld. While our heroes fight, humanity can only hold its breath and wait.
The Medicine Stars is a helpful resource for families investigating the challenges of asthma. In addition to the dynamic adventure story, there is a section called “In the Classroom,” which explains the basics of asthma.
